The Nomads Timeline

It would take a long time, and several sheets more of paper, to record everything we've done in 30 years. However, here are a few of the key happenings, sorry if we've missed your favourite!

6-Jul-74 Knightswood Swimming Club is formed. Founder members were Jimmy Auld, Ian Henry, John Park, Martin O'Hara, Duncan Boyd, Colin Clark, Eric McKendrick, Frances McLennan, John Gifford and Rose Hale.
26-Apr-75 Rose Hale, Brian Wilson and Martin O'Hara all win golds at the Glasgow 800 Gala at Maryhill Baths.
1-Jun-75 Knightswood are edged out by 9 points in a home team match versus Kopovagur of Iceland.
22-Dec-75 In a team match at Knightswood the home team beat Maryhill Victoria by 3 points
31-Dec-75 Ian Henry tops the Knightswood 60m freestyle rankings for 1975 with a time of 37.1.
1-Jan-76 Knightswood swoop to sign butterflier Davy Henderson from City of Glasgow, records indicate no fee was involved.
15-Feb-76 David Hogg wins the 11 and under 40m freestyle at the CES League match in a time of 30.2.
1-Jun-76 Team match at Knightswood finishes: Armann (Iceland) 46, Knightswood 33, Clydebank 17. It's not reported if future signings Douglas Mackie or Jonnie Burke are in the Bankies team.
9-Jun-76 Knightswood beat Scotia 198-190 in a home team match.
25-Jun-76 The first of many "training" camps takes place at Aviemore.
1-Aug-76 Stickleback 8 is issued with that "Will you be in Moscow 1980?" cover.
6-Nov-76 For the first time a CES team competes in the Strathclyde Championships at Bishopbriggs.
19-Mar-77 The mens medley relay team of Mark McKinney, John "Shuggie" Hope, Davy Henderson and Ian Henry win silver at the West Districts at Paisley, the club's first ever Scottish district medal.
7-Apr-77 Knightswood win 16 individual and relay golds at the CES Championships at Calder Street Baths.
25-Jun-77 The club finish with two 3rds and one 2nd from the series of team matches against local teams and the Faroe Islands on the Iceland tour. It is not recorded if this was the first Scottish sporting team to fail to beat the Faroes. The trip is also memorable for Big Ian's mistaken purchase of alcohol free beer.
29-Apr-78 Lynn Forbes and Gilmour Robertson both medal at the West District Age Group Championships at Bellshill.
15-May-78 Coach Auld is disappointed as Knightswood swimmers fail to win the CES mens 50m back title at Whitehill, the club won every other individual title!
20-May-78 Davy Henderson wins 2 golds at the British College Championships at Leeds.
27-May-78 Aviemore weekend 2 takes place. Unfortunately no gossip was recorded.
3-Jun-78 On the day Scotland lost to Peru at the World Cup a CES team wins the Inverclyde 6 Club Meet at Greenock. The bus trip to Greenock was made memorable by Les Sims tartan suit and mouth organ!
17-Aug-78 A team of Colin Clark, Shuggie Hope, Lawrence McArdle, Ian Henry, Bill Hemingway and Jimmy Auld swim Loch Brindle, the highest loch in Britain. Mad.
21-Oct-78 Gilmour Robertson, Mark McKinney and the mens freestyle relay team of Mark, Neil McCallum, Graham Pottie and Mark Dickson all make finals at the Scottish Age Groups in Edinburgh. Mark McKinney becomes the clubs first TV star when his backcrawl events are covered on Scotsport, Mark gets on the telly by horsing out the first half of the 200 before disappearing off the TV screen, alongwith the grand piano he was carrying, during the second 100m!
22-Oct-78 Deirdrie Drainer is 4th in 10 years and under 50m breaststroke at the Scottish Age Group Finals at the Commonwealth Pool, the time is a West District record.
29-Oct-78 Deirdrie Drainer wins the 10 and under breaststroke gold at the Strathclyde Championships at Bishopbriggs, the clubs first Strathclyde title. Andrew Caridis, Allison Teaz and Mark McKinney all win bronze.
13-Nov-78 In a time of 58.7 Mark McKinney is the first man under the minute for 100m free at Knightswood.
17-Dec-78 Ian Henry retires as club captain after the years Knightswood Championships. 
10-Feb-79 Gilmour Robertson wins the 110 yards free at the Scottish Schools at East Kilbride.
19-May-79 The mens freestyle relay of Mark Dickson, Paul McKinney, Gilmour Robertson and Mark McKinney are the first club team (but certainly not the last) to get disqualified. The culprit was not identified though this may be the first occasion of officiating bias.
21-Jun-79 Allison Teaz and Mark McKinney both make the Scottish Age Group 100m backcrawl finals at Edinburgh.
20-Jan-80 Jimmy announces in Stickleback 18 that a "pensioners" lane is to be started at Knightswood. Apparently Les, Shuggie, Rose and Heather will be the first participants. 
20-Jan-80 It is announced that club fees will be increased to 50p per week for more than 2 sessions! So stop moaning all you current swimmers!
29-Jan-80 At one of the very first sessions to take place at Abercorn (16.66m!) Mark McKinney tops the 200m time trial rankings with 2:03.1.
1-May-80 Kopovagur of Iceland are beaten 141-92 in a club match at Knightswood.
5-Aug-81 Jonnie Burke and David Hutton are snapped up on a free transfer from the Castle Rock club, Dumbarton. 
17-Oct-81 Lynne Forbes breaks the Scottish 11 and under 100 breast record with a time of 1:28.3.
19-Jun-82 Allison Teaz swims the 100 back for the Scottish Schools team at the home internationals in Edinburgh.
17-Jul-82 Jonnie Burke is young enough (just) to be part of the Scottish Youth Team at an international in Dublin.
6-Aug-82 Young Jonnie Burke wins the Scottish Junior 400m medley title at Edinburgh.
21-Aug-82 Lynne Forbes, Elaine Pollock and Iain Teaz are all part of the West of Scotland team at the Scottish Inter Districts.
9-Oct-82 CES, with 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals are 3rd top club at the Motherwell 50 sprint meet.
16-Oct-82 Mark McKinney, Allison Teaz and Elaine Pollock (2) all win gold at the East Kilbride Long Course Open.
30-Oct-82 The first Scottish Masters at Ayr is attended by a CES team of Janet Stobie, Jimmy Auld, Les Sim, Shuggie Hope, Ian Henry, Eddie Docherty, Alan Beadle and Patrick Harvey.
15-Jan-83 A new Monday training session is started at the 3 lane, 25 yards Church Street pool.
17-Sep-83 An "elite" mens team of Ian Henry, Jimmy Auld, Les Sim and Shuggie Hope swim the Welsh Masters at Cardiff. The latter 2 fail to make their sleeping quarters on Saturday though no reason was recorded.
30-Oct-83 Janet Stobie, George MacLeod, Ruby Thomson, Hugh Hall, Les Sim, Shuggie Hope and Jimmy Auld all swim in the Scottish Masters at Whitehill.
5-Nov-83 The ladies (Carol Forbes, Angie Younger, Rae Thomson, Allison Teaz) and mens (Jonnie Burke, David Hutton, Mark & Paul McKinney) senior freestyle relays both win silver at the Strathclyde Championships. Elaine Pollock wins the 100 fly and free and Ian Teaz the 100 free.
12-Nov-83 Elaine Pollock takes gold and silver in the 100 free (1:06.46) and fly (1:16.91) at the Incas meet in Stirling. Let down by her legs in the fly said coach Auld afterwards.
16-Feb-85 A slightly older Jonnie Burke wins his first Scottish senior cap at the Barnet Copthall Meet.
25-May-85 Mark McKinney and Alieda McHenry are married at the Albany Hotel in Glasgow, this is thought to be the first club wedding! The day is a double celebration as Scotland gub England at Hampden with a Richard Gough header.
1-Jun-85 The 1984/85 was the clubs best ever in terms of national selection; Allison Teaz, Mark McKinney and Jonnie Burke made the Scottish senior squad, Elaine Pollock the youth team and David Hogg and Jonnie Burke the Scottish Universities, though we're not sure which "sport" the latter 2 qualified for!
11-Jun-86 The name "Nomads" is first coined for the Knightswood Gala Week competition.
18-Jun-86 After12 years coaching at Knightswood and several years elsewhere, George MacLeod retires as juniors coach.
26-Jun-86 At the Scottish Age Groups at East Kilbride Allison Teaz wins gold in the 100 back. CES win a further 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.
30-Aug-86 Elaine Pollock, Iain Teaz and Martin Lynch (aka Marsh) swim for the West of Scotland team at the Scottish Inter Districts at Peterhead.
26-Oct-86 The mens 4x50m freestyle team of Mark & Paul McKinney, Jonnie Burke and Iain Teaz win the West District Senior title in a time of 1:41.77. 
1-Nov-86 The same mens free team repeat their victory, this time at the Strathclyde Championships.
20-Dec-86 The mens 4x50m freestyle team narrowly miss out on a hat trick of titles at the Scottish Short Course as Jonnie Burke (25.78), Mark (25.30) & Paul McKinney (25.63) and Iain Teaz (24.44) win silver in a time of 1:41.15.
28-Jun-87 CES win the 19/24 years Scottish Age Group medley relay title at East Kilbride. Iain Teaz wins silver in the 17/18 years 200 back.
5-Sep-87 Iain Teaz, Mark McKinney and Jonnie Burke finish 1-2-3 in the open backcrawl at the Motherwell 50s.
19-Sep-87 Mark McKinney wins 200 backcrawl gold in the European Masters at Blackpool.
26-Feb-88 Iain Teaz wins his first cap in the Scotland v Ireland team event in Bangor. Scotland win!
17-Apr-88 Allison Teaz breaks the Scottish 19/24 200m back record with a time of 2:50.1.
21-May-88 Mark McKinney, Davy Henderson, John Mathieson, Steve McNally and Jimmy Auld (with 4) all win gold at the Scottish Masters at Whitehill.
29-Oct-88 Iain Teaz breaks the Scottish 50 back record at the Cumbernauld Open Meet.
5-Dec-88 Allison Teaz, Gillian Dorricott, Mark McKinney and Iain Teaz all feature in the Scottish Top 10 rankings for 1988.
18-Dec-88 The mens 4x50m freestyle team of Jonnie Burke, Mark & Paul McKinney and Iain Teaz win Scottish short course silver at Johnstone in a time of 1:39.68.
5-Jul-89 Stickleback 34 is issued complete with a fancy laminated cover courtesy of Bobby Cuthbertson.
29-Jul-89 Allison Teaz and Paul McKinney are married in Glasgow. Another Nomads party!
1-Aug-89 Janet Stobie, Ian Henry and Mark McKinney all compete at the World Masters Games in Aarhus, Denmark. In the ladies 1500 free Janet breaks the European record in her heat, only to watch a German break it in the heat after!
28-Oct-89 The mens 4x50 free team of Iain Teaz, Paul McKinney, David Hogg and Mark McKinney win silver at the West Districts at Cumbernauld. Iain also wins the 100 free in a West Distric record of 52.71.
12-May-90 At the West Districts at Larkhall Norman Williamson breaks the minute barrier for the 100 free.
1-Sep-90 Allison McKinney, Joanna Breare, Janet Stobie, Steve Harris, Mark & Paul McKinney, David Hogg and Bobby Cuthbertson all win medals at the English Midlands Masters in Nuneaton.
15-Dec-90 The mens 4x50 freestyle team of Mark McKinney, Steve Harris, Norman Williamson and Iain Teaz are 4th at the Ayr Scottish Short Course in a time of 1:40.23.
15-Jun-91 Iain Teaz wins silver in the 50 and 100 free at the Scottish Long Course, East Kilbride.
29-Sep-91 Mark McKinney, Bobby Cuthbertson and Norman Williamson all win gold medals at the Leicester Masters.
30-Nov-91 Iain Teaz takes silver in the 50 free at the Scottish Sprint Championships in Dunfermline with a time of 23.91.
25-Apr-92 Iain Teaz swims 50 and 100 free for Scotland at the 8 Nations event in Oulo, Finland.
4-Oct-92 The free relay team of Steve Harris, Norman Williamson, Mark McKinney and Iain Teaz take bronze at the Larkhall Meet with a time of 1:41.23.
28-Nov-92 Iain Teaz wins the Scottish 50 free title at Larkhall with a time of 23.57.
15-Jun-94 Stephen Harris and Iain Teaz top the GB rankings for the year in the B and A groups for 100 free.
11-Nov-94 Nomads debutant John Bradley breaks the world Masters 50 fly record of 25.77 in the Scottish at Whitehill. Unfortunately, and swimming ahead of John, so does Martin Harris!
12-Nov-94 John breaks the 100 fly European record and this time wins the event.
22-Jun-96 The 4x50m medley relay team of Mark McKinney, Jonnie Burke, John Bradley and Iain Teaz win bronze at the World Masters at Sheffield.
21-Mar-97 The last ever training session takes place at Church Street pool.
26-Oct-97 At the GBs in Sheffield the medley relay team of Iain Teaz, Jonnie Burke, John Bradley and Norman Williamson break the club record with a time of 1:52.40, unfortunately they can only win silver! The team also win 4 individual gold, 2 silvers and a further relay silver. Jonnie breaks the Scottish B group records for 50 and 200 breaststroke.
15-Nov-97 Maggie Hood, Heather Keating, Jonnie Burke, Mark Middleton and Iain Teaz take part in the Belfast Masters; the Guinness was great, everyone had a great time and er, nobody recorded the results.
14-Mar-98 An intrepid squad of 10 swimmers and 3 spectators take part in John Bradley's hometown Darlington Meet. John is ticked off by the ref during the 100 medley start for "waving his arms about". Honest!
18-May-98 Nomads team of mature swimmers hold their younger counterparts from Glasgow University to a draw in the team challenge at the Stevenson Building.
31-May-98 At the GB Masters in Tollcross the mens 4x50m medley relay team of Paul Tyler, Norman Williamson, John Bradleyand Iain Teaz break the British 100 years + record with a time of 1:56.22. Overall Nomads win 14 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.
31-Dec-98 Janette Stobie, Gillian Dorricott, Steve Harris, Keith Scott, John Bradley, Mark McKinney, Jonnie Burke and Iain Teaz all make the British top 10 rankings for various events.
8-May-99 At the Scottish Masters at Scotstoun 29 gold medals find their way into Nomads hands. These include full houses in the youngest age groups of the backcrawl events by Paul Tyler, Iain Teaz and Mark McKinney respectively.
1-Aug-00 The most recent issue of Stickleback was issued. More than 4 years ago!!!
28-Oct-00 There are golds in the B age group for Iain Teaz (50 free) and John Bradley (100 and 200 free) at the GB Masters at Sheffield.
11-Nov-00 13 gold, 15 silver and 3 bronze is Nomads final haul from the Glasgow International Masters at Scotstoun.
20-Jan-01 Paul Tyler, John Bradley and Iain Teaz all top the year end GB Masters rankings in various events. Gillian Dorricott, Mark McKinney, Ian Henry, Norman Williamson and Jonnie Burke also feature in  the top 10.
21-Apr-01 The mens medley relay team of Paul Tyler, Norman Williamson, Douglas McLean and Iain Teaz win the Perth Masters title. Unfortunately no splits were recorded as fellow team members Gillian Dorricott and Audrey Walker were playing on the flumes.
3-Jun-01 The mens 4x50m freestyle relay team of Paul Tyler, Norman Williamson, Iain Teaz and John Bradley break the British 120 years + record with a time of 1:42.26.
10-Nov-01 Coral Stone and George Campbell join Nomads from London club, Guys Hospital. As part of the deal Nomads also have to sign their clubmate Nick Andrews.
23-Mar-02 Norman Williamson and Audrey Walker are married in Glasgow. The main wedding party is comprised of Nomads swimmers!
10-Nov-02 A controversial Glasgow International sees John (Mac)Bradley and Paul (Mac)Tyler laying claim to Scottish Masters records. The Sporting Court for Arbitration in Lausanne is yet to hear a certain Nomads swimmers appeal! Despite all that Nomads win 23 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze over the weekend.
26-Apr-03 Nomads romp to 23 gold, 15 silver and 8 bronze medals at the Scottish Masters at Tollcross.
26-Oct-03 Nick Andrews and Iain Teaz bring home 2 medals and 4 top ten finishes from the British Short Course Masters at Sheffield.
8-Nov-03 At the Glasgow International Masters at Scotstoun the club take home 10 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze medals.
26-Mar-04 Nomads swimmers win 17 gold, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals at the Scottish Masters at Tollcross.

And yes, those of you with a keen eye will note that apparently nothing of note occurred in 1993 or 1997!?
