Who We Are

Glasgow Nomads is primarily a Masters swimming club with many of the swimmers having been members since the late 70s and early 80s when age group and senior squads were the main focus. The Nomads have trained at countless different pools in the city, hence the club's unusual name. But these days we restrict ourselves to just two, at Knightswood Community Centre and Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

We have mainly younger Masters swimmers, in groups A - D but can cater for all ages as well as encouraging students who wish to remain in swimming but no longer have the time to devote to full time training. We also have swimmers of all abilities, from former internationalists and National champions to those with no previous competitive background who perhaps didn't take up the sport till they were adults.

In addition to swimming we are a very sociable (Mr Auld might argue too sociable) group, with a regular trip to the pub after training on a Friday night. We also go hillwalking as a group, and some of us have been known to go camping, cycling and bowling together. The highlight of the social calendar is the Christmas Night Out. For the last two years we have gone to the Cobbler Hotel in Arrochar for a party night and overnight stay, followed by a hangover-curing walk after breakfast.
